SAGE would like to take this opportunity to thank the following Frisco
ISD staff who took gave up their evening to provide parents with information on
tranistioning from PPCD to elementary, elementary to middle school and middle
school to high school at our Transitions Workshop in April.
Andrea Ryan - Centennial High School
Christina Driskill - Wakeland High School
Connie Riley - Stafford Middle School
Robin Weynand - Clark Middle School
Carrie Davidson - Coordinator of Special Education Services
Debbie Lair - Coordinator of Special Education Services
Judy Haven - Director of Special Education
Thank you for making time to help our parents whose children are facing these
transitions and for staying late to answer parent questions.
Attached is a copy of the
power point presentation that was used.
Some of the things we learned were:
*Change has considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful
it is threatening. To the hpeful it is encouraging. To the confident it is
inspiring.
*It is important to know that your attitude will influence your child's thinking
about any transition.
*It is important for parents to stay involved and support children during
transitions because student achievement increases with increased duration and
intensity of parental involvement.
The Special Education Department did a great job of providing transition
information. Please be sure to look through the powerpoint which contains a lot
of information on specific transitions. Frisco ISD Special Education Services
puts out a Transitions Tips flyer for parents. If you would like a copy or, if
you have any questions regarding your student's transition, feel free to call
469-633-6900.
Thanks again to everyone who helped make this possible.
Sincerely,
Heather Brown
